Since 1997, Young Audiences of Northeast Texas has supported the arts in education and partnered with educators to bring unique arts experiences to students, teachers and schools. This year our Arts in Education Awards event is expanding to honor the true heroes of the arts in our schools, arts educators themselves. 

 

This spring, Young Audiences will honor arts educators throughout the Northeast Texas region by presenting awards for Arts Teaching Excellence in six categories. We are proud to announce the following finalists for the 2015 Awards:

 

Elementary: 

Jennifer Thrasher: Music Visual Art, Rice Elementarfy School (Tyler)

Julianna Wynn: Visual Art, Bell Elementary School (Tyler)

 

Middle School:

Shane Almendarez: Orchestra Director, Moore MST Magnet School (Tyler)

Helather Gentry: Visual Art, Arp Junior High School (Arp)

 

Secondary:

Melinda Tefteller: Visual Art, Robert E. Lee High School (Tyler)

Michael Ward: Theatre Direcgtor, Robert E. Lee High School (Tyler)

 

Distinguished Service to the Profession:

Christolyn Milligan: Music, A. T. Stewart Middle School (Tyler)

Alacia Reid: Choir & Theatre, James S. Hogg Middle School (Tyler)

 

Finalists will be honored at a dinner, sponsored by Texas Bank and Trust, on Thursday, May 7, at KE Bushman’s Celebration Center. Awards include grants and a free arts experiences for finalists and their students, presented by a Young Audiences teaching artist.
